Jachie
The Convent of the Holy Spirit, Jachie, Ghana is the base for Sr Aba’s work at the Jachie Anglican Eye Clinic.
The Eye Clinic started in April 2002 with a staff of three.
It was the vision of Sr Aba with encouragement and support from Dr Rowland Cowley (since deceased), a retired consultant ophthalmologist from St. Barnabas Church in Middlesbrough.
In March 2019 after a major upgrade incorporating spare room capacity at the convent to enable the clinic to offer Eye Surgery, Laser treatment and various Diagnostic procedures, the Clinic was upgraded by the Health Facility Regulator Authority (HEFRA) to hospital status – the first stand-alone Mission Eye Hospital in Ghana, with a present staff of 43.
The Clinic continues to receive help from the folk at St Barnabas, If you or your Church feel that you could also help the clinic, please contact, in the first instance, The Prioress at Whitby (info@ohpwhitby.org.uk) who can advise on the best way forward.
